South
Africa has become famous for its Great White Shark cage diving, offering
some of the best shark viewing in the world, around the coast at Gansbaai
and Mossel Bay. The trip is informative, exciting and one that won’t
easily be forgotten. It is the ultimate experience, submerged in a steel
cage, to come eye to eye with these incredible animals. The Great Whites
in this area vary from 3 m to 6 m in length weighing in at approximately
2000 kg. Each year, the area gets between 25000 and 30000 visitors who
come to see these huge predators of the sea, in an area where the 50 -
60000 strong Cape Fur Seal colony provides them with an ample meal each
day.
The trip normally lasts from three to four hours out at sea and includes
all diving equipment, soft drinks and snacks on the boat.
The high season for sharks is June to November, low season is December
to February and average season is March to May.
Only qualified divers are allowed entry to the cage even though this is
a simple and shallow dive, you are in the company of a wild animal and
you will be using scuba gear. For those that don’t have a scuba
qualification or don’t want to brave it in the water, you can remain
on the boat and view from the side, which also offers great views and
photographic opportunities as the sharks frequently swim at the surface
and cruise around the boat.
Transport from Cape Town and surrounding areas is offered.
